Caring for God’s Creation: Sequoia Trees
-
God created a grove of Sequoia Trees thousands of years ago.
-
Human-caused forest fires threaten God’s ancient creation. It’s up to Americans to protect His creation for future generations.
The Sequoia trees in Yosemite are some of Earth’s oldest, biggest trees. God created this grove of Sequoias thousands of years ago.
Scripture tells us that “The earth is the Lord’s and all it holds” (Psalms 24:1). He bestowed this beautiful grove of trees on Americans to protect and defend. But decades of carelessness have put the trees in danger.
God’s Creation Is In Danger
A forest fire threatens the majestic Sequoia trees. Since July 7, the fire has burned through 3,221 acres of land in Yosemite National Park.
Humans started the fire, according to Yosemite Superintendent Cicely Muldoon.
"As you all know, there was no lightning on that day,” Muldoon said about the day the fire started. “So it’s a human start fire and it’s under investigation.”
Giant Sequoias like those in Yosemite only grow in a few areas along the US west coast. These magnificent trees are in danger of going extinct on Americans’ watch.
Americans Must Safeguard God’s Creation
Firefighters have been working hard to prevent the spread of the fire to the Sequoias. But fighting fires is a last resort.
Human-caused climate change is drying out the land and leading to more severe droughts. These things make it easier for fires to ignite and spread.
The Bible says that “The Lord God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it” (Genesis 2:15).
Caring for God’s Earth means protecting His creations like the beautiful Sequoias and stopping climate change.
If we are true to Christ’s direction to reconcile all creation to God, we must protect this Sequoia grove.
