Michael Rigas Appointed as Acting Chief of GSA

President Donald Trump has appointed Michael Rigas as the new acting chief of the General Services Administration (GSA). This marks Rigas's third appointment at the GSA, showcasing his extensive involvement in the organization.

Prior to this role, Rigas served as the State Department's deputy secretary for management and resources. According to Marianne Copenhaver, GSA's associate administrator, Rigas's blend of experience in both the private and public sectors will be invaluable. "We’re thrilled to have his institutional knowledge, leadership, and decades of experience," Copenhaver stated in a communication to FedScoop.

Stephen Ehikian, who took on the role of acting administrator in January, will maintain his position as deputy administrator. His background includes being a former vice president at Salesforce and a self-described "serial entrepreneur."

Rigas has been involved in various capacities, such as overseeing layoffs at the State Department. Moreover, he played a significant role in directing the America First Policy Institute’s Presidential Transition Project and has connections with the Heritage Foundation, the group behind Project 2025.

His previous posts during Trump's first administration included roles at the Office of Personnel Management, Office of Management and Budget, and as GSA's acting federal chief information officer and senior adviser.

Rigas's private sector experience includes positions at Mellon Financial Corporation and Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. His academic credentials include a master’s in public administration from Harvard University and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University.

It is currently uncertain whether Rigas will continue his duties at the State Department, as the department did not immediately provide a response to inquiries from FedScoop.
