Michael Rigas Appointed as Acting GSA Chief

In an intriguing shift within the Trump administration, Michael Rigas has been appointed as the acting chief of the General Services Administration (GSA), his third role within the agency. This announcement was made by the GSA and marks another significant appointment for Rigas, who has recently served in a senior position at the State Department.

Marianne Copenhaver, Associate Administrator for the GSA, praised Rigas’s wealth of experience and noted his capability to enhance government services in real estate, acquisition, and technology. “We’re thrilled to have his institutional knowledge, leadership, and decades of experience in the private and public sector,” she stated to FedScoop.

Stephen Ehikian, acting administrator since January, will continue his contribution as deputy administrator. Ehikian, known for his previous role as a Salesforce vice president, is recognized as a “serial entrepreneur”.

During his tenure at the State Department, Rigas supervised a significant round of layoffs, as reported by Federal News Network. His past roles include directing the America First Policy Institute’s Presidential Transition Project. Rigas has also been involved with Project 2025, a Heritage Foundation initiative. His previous experience in the Trump administration included key positions at the Office of Personnel Management and the Office of Management and Budget.

Rigas's career extends into the private sector, having worked with Mellon Financial Corporation and Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. His academic credentials include a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University, along with bachelor's and master's degrees from Boston University.

There has been no confirmation on whether Rigas will retain his responsibilities at the State Department, as requests for comment remain unanswered.
