Michael Rigas Takes on Third Role at GSA as Acting Chief

In a recent move by President Donald Trump, Michael Rigas, a seasoned leader from the State Department, has been appointed as the new acting chief of the General Services Administration (GSA). This marks Rigas's third appointment at the agency, showcasing his extensive experience and expertise.

Rigas, who recently served as the deputy secretary for management and resources at the State Department, will now lead the GSA. "We’re thrilled to have his institutional knowledge, leadership, and decades of experience in the private and public sector. Under Mike’s leadership, GSA will continue to deliver effective and efficient government services in real estate, acquisition, and technology," noted Marianne Copenhaver, the associate administrator for the GSA, in a statement to FedScoop.

Stephen Ehikian will maintain his position as deputy administrator while continuing to support the agency's initiatives. Ehikian is known for his previous role at Salesforce and his dynamic entrepreneurial background.

Rigas has a history of managing significant projects, including overseeing layoffs at the State Department recently, as reported by Federal News Network. He also played a critical role in the America First Policy Institute’s Presidential Transition Project and contributed as a senior adviser to the Trump-Vance 2025 transition. His responsibilities included developing federal department "action plans and appointee training programs," according to GSA’s online biography.

His previous government service under Trump's first administration includes positions at the Office of Personnel Management, the Office of Management and Budget, and a stint as acting federal chief information officer at the GSA. Earlier, Rigas was involved in the private sector with Mellon Financial Corporation and Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. He holds advanced degrees in public administration from Harvard University and Boston University.

It remains uncertain if Rigas will retain his current position at the State Department, which has yet to respond to inquiries from FedScoop.
